You’ve Been Duped: Booker T and Corey Graves Reveal Feud was a Work

Probably one of the more interesting rivalries in the wrestling world came to fruition all on its own. Over the past few weeks, Corey Graves and Booker T have been exchanging verbal blows via social media. Booker T publicly blamed Graves for losing his position on the commentary team to a returning Jonathon Coachman.

Following the 25th Anniversary of RAW a few weeks ago, the WWE decided to bring back Coach to the commentary team. Coach had been working for ESPN as a commentator for quite some time now. Apparently, the WWE hoped to bring some credibility and knowledge to the commentary team by using some of Jonathon Coachman’s experience.

Unfortunately for Booker, the WWE decided to pull him from the commentary table to squeeze Coach back in. But he wasn’t going to go down without a fight.

After the news broke, Booker T went public on his Heated Conversations Podcast, where he blamed Corey for forcing him out of his position. He threatened to fight the “Savior of Misbehavior,” later inviting Graves on to his show. Graves gladly accepted, and the whole WWE Universe awaited their clash.

Booker T vs. Corey Graves….or not

Of course, Graves actually did call into Booker’s podcast last night. Sadly, they revealed that their back-and-forth exchanges were only a work. The entire transcript can be found at

“When all of this blew up and I heard it, I was getting phone calls and text messages. ‘You gotta hear this, Booker said this.’ And as soon as I heard it, knowing you like I know you, I was like, oh, that’s just Book working. So I figured, you know, just being in the old school mentality. I’m like, oh, let’s have fun with this. Did it take off!”

Apparently, Booker wanted to see how far this could go when he was first making comments. Graves played along too, later involving the New Day and Michael Cole. In fact, Michael Cole was willing to step into the ring with Booker on behalf of the former NXT Tag Team Champion, who is not cleared for action.

Booker T is said to be going back to the kick-off panel. He’ll also be returning to his previous backstage duties.

Although we knew this couldn’t go far beside a war of words, it was entertaining nonetheless. Kudos to both men, who still can pull off a promo and believable feud without the in-ring storytelling. Perhaps a few on the roster could learn from this.

Great job, guys! You sure had us duped.
