Intercontinental Championship Match Set To Headline WWE PPV For First Time Ever

The Intercontinental Championship match is set to headline a WWE pay-per-view for the first time in company history. The Miz will defend his championship against what looks to be Roman Reigns. Reigns of course just defeated John Cena in a match most fans would call a “dream match” at No Mercy. The Miz defeated Jason Jordan at No Mercy and looks to be still feuding with Jordan while also feuding against Reigns. The next RAW pay-per-view will be TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs on October 22nd.

How did all of this happen? Well, the WWE Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar isn’t scheduled to make an appearance until January. Lesnar successfully defended his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman at No Mercy. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Universal Championship from now until January. If the former UFC Heavyweight Champion does keep the title, will the Universal Championship be defended at Survivor Series on November 19th?

The Intercontinental Champion has been in the main event of a WWE pay-per-view before. However, the WWE/WWF Championship has always been in the picture. This could be a tremendous opportunity for The Miz to make the Intercontential Championship, even more, prestigious. The Miz is the third longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in history, behind Pedro Morales and Don Muraco. On the September 25th edition of Monday Night RAW, The Miz and the Miztourage attacked Roman Reigns and formed the Shield fistbump over him. Roman Reigns has never won the Intercontinental Championship and could look to add the title to his already incredible amount of accomplishments in the WWE. The Miz has the opportunity to mark his legacy as one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions in WWE history if everything stays the course.
