John Cena on his neck bump against Shinsuke Nakamura on Smackdown Live

Tuesday night on SmackDown Live, the hyped “dream match” between the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion & former NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and the former 16 time WWE Champion John Cena for the #1 contender to the WWE Championship at SummerSlam against Jinder Mahal took place in Cleveland Ohio.

It was a fantastic match for the time it was given. The most memorable spot of the match was when Nakamura hit a suplex and Cena fell directly on his head and neck. The injury looked horrible, and most wrestlers would probably call it a night after that.

Not Cena though, the WWE’s Superman took the Kinshasa (Nakamura’s finisher) and put the Japanese superstar over. After the match, Nakamura was seen mouthing the words “I’m sorry” to Cena, and Cena mouthed back “Don’t be sorry.”

Kevin Owens weighed in on the scary bump Cena took by reminding the fans that John Cena may not be human:

Cena then responded to Kevin Owen’s tweet with a lighthearted response and showing his support to Nakamura’s match against Cena was an absolute class act about the situation and it seems to be a freak accident that occurred.

Wrestling is a dangerous sport and timing is key, being a second or two off can cause horrific injuries. The good news is it looks as those Cena has not sustained injuries from the head and neck bump.

When the move occurred, fans saw Cena immediately grab his ear; which isn’t a normal body part to sell. However, after the match Cena even proceeded to put Baron Corbin through a table; likely setting up a match between the two at SummerSlam.

Luckily, it seems as though there is no backstage heat on Nakamura for the move. It seems like everyone handled the situation with professionalism and classiness.
