London RAW a mixed bag in 2017

Thanks partially due to the taped environment, this weeks episode of Monday Night RAW, the company’s yearly “London RAW” felt awkward and at times hard to watch.

General Manager Daniel Bryan was not in the arena and thusly for some reason, The Miz and Dean Ambrose were left in charge for the night.

Thanks to calls from Angle and Stephanie McMahon on Monday; because I guess neither had the foresight to email someone some instructions for the night or something. But whatever, as Chris Jericho has said in the past- when you don’t think too hard, pro wrestling can be pretty fun.

This was a strange decision that really wasn’t explained set the stage for what was a strange episode of RAW. It appeared as if this weeks episode of RAW was taped. This is unusual, especially for the WWE in 2017 but perhaps they opted to go with a taped show rather than a live one because of it being in London’s O2 arena.

This became a crippling part of the show. Live crowds for RAW, especially when they are in London always create some fun fan interactions. But this crowd just seemed out of it. I am not sure if it was because of the taped environment or something else, but the crowd was all but non-existent.

Which is a shame, because the fans had a few great tv matches to witness, namely another matchup between Samoa Joe and Seth Rollins, that ultimately ended via disqualification. The fans also got a fun cruiserweight matchup between “Gentleman” Jack Gallagher and TJ Perkins.

Strowan goes down with injury

The major story of the show may have been the advancement of the Braun Stroman and Roman Reigns feud.

Despite having a torn rotator cuff, Strowman (armed with a sling) was for some reason cleared for a match with Kalisto. I am not sure why, but whatever.

Kalisto was getting dismantled by Strowman before Reigns made the run in, who used a steel chair to further damage Strowman’s injured arm.

This appeared to be a way to get Strowman logically off tv after Pro Wrestling Sheet reported earlier Monday that Strowman may be out until mid-July.

It also appears as if the Hardy Boyz vs Sheamus and Cesaro feud will continue as the latter won a Tag Team Turmoil match to become the no. 1 contenders for the Hardys’ RAW tag team championships.

All in all, RAW had promise but the lack of explanation for why Ambrose and Miz were left in charge and a dead crowd were extremely hard to overcome for “the Red Brand.”
