Samoa Joe: The Destroyer

Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe, real name Nuufolau Joel Seanoa, was signed to WWE in 2015, currently performing on Raw brand.

He was known for his time with Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW), GFW Impact Wrestling (TNA), and Ring of Honor (ROH).

History of Samoa Joe

Back in 2000, he feuded with today top draws like John Cena, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens, AJ Styles. He also faced Legends like Sting, Kurt Angle, Booker T and Kelvin Nash back in Impact Wrestling.

He even made an appearance on WWF/E ring against Essa Rios back in 2000.

When Joe was in UPW, he met Bruce Pritchard and Jim Ross, who told him that he will not have a future in pro wrestling.

Even today, Bruce Pritchard still thinks Samoa Joe isn’t ready to be called WWE World Universal Champion.

He said that “I would not pull the trigger on Samoa Joe title run at Great Balls of Fire. And Brock Lesnar should end the Pay Per View on Sunday with the championship still in his hand.”

Joe proved doubters wrong!

For years, people say Joe will never be in the main event level.

Joe impressed fans with his extremely stiff and hard-hitting style that resembled a mixed martial arts fighter than a wrestler.

He was the longest reigning UPW Heavyweight Champion, and ROH Heavyweight Champion (beating from Paige’s Brother Roy Knight).

While in TNA, Joe made history by becoming the first wrestler in TNA to hold multiple TNA championships (X Division Champion & TNA World Tag Team Champion with Kurt Angle).

In 2008, Joe defeated Angle to win his first TNA World Championship, and became TNA’s third Triple Crown Champion.

At TNA Slammiversary, Joe became the first champion to ever retain his title in a King of the Mountain match.

Samoa Joe in WWE

On May 20 2015, Joe made his debut at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable. On June, WWE signed him to a full-time deal due to his impressive merchandise sales.

And he was the first ever two times WWE NXT Champion, by beating from Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura respectively.

RAW Debut!

On January 30, 2017 Raw, Joe made his official main roster debut, attacking Seth Rollins from behind, and aligning himself with Triple H.

He also defeated Roman Reigns in his main roster in-ring debut, but thanks to a distraction by Braun Strowman.

On June 4, Joe defeated Reigns, Rollins, Balor, and Wyatt in an Extreme Rules Fatal Five-Way match at Extreme Rules to become the number one contender to Brock Lesnar‘s Universal Championship at Great Balls of Fire.

June 12th RAW!

The first interaction between Champion Brock Lesnar and Challenger Samoa Joe didn’t disappoint the fans.

Joe made the first move with a headbutt that quickly devolved into a pull-apart brawl, and then General Manager Kurt Angle sent out wrestlers to break them up. Then Joe gave an incredible superkick to Lesnar that knocked down an entire group of wrestlers with him.

On June 27th RAW, Joe attacked Lesnar, and was able to administer his Coquina Clutch on The Beast.

No Stranger to Brawls!

Back in ROH, Joe called out the Pro Wrestling Noah promotion, got into an argument and pull-apart brawl with Noah star Takeshi Morishima.

In Impact Wrestling (TNA), Joe was involve in a pull-apart brawl with Kurt Angle.

While in NXT, Joe and Owens match ended in a no contest, with the two continuing to brawl until they were separated.

The Fun Begins!

Joe and Lesnar feud is, by far, one of the most entertaining feud we seen on RAW for quite a while.

Samoa Joe as WWE Universal Champion!?

The question in everyone’s mind is that, come this Sunday, we all know Joe will lose to Lesnar, but what if he wins? Will he be ready to carry RAW to The Era of The Destroyer?

Writer’s Opinion on the Ending of this match.

For me, Joe just started to get his momentum on the main roster. So even if he wins, Joe will lose to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam PPV. So he will just be another squash like Bray Wyatt to Randy Orton.

But if Lesnar wins based on rumors, he will face Strowman at SummerSlam, retains his title, and then move on to better others til Wrestlemania 34 which he will lose to Reigns.

My Verdict!

I’m hoping WWE ended with a double count-out or Lesnar made the pinfall by reversing the Coquina Clutch submission into it. This way, Joe will still be build as a strong competitor to The Beast.

Or Joe beats Lesnar at this Sunday Great Balls of Fire PPV, while Reigns loses to Strowman in an ambulance match.

Future Match Set Ups!

Following RAW, Kurt Angle announced, at Summerslam PPV, Lesnar vs Strowman to determine the No.1 Contender for the Universal Champion. While Joe vs Balor for the Universal Title.

Reigns will return at SummerSlam to cost the match between Lesnar and Strowman. By which WWE can set up a triple threat match at next RAW PPV, NO MERCY!!!

Reigns wins the triple threat match (making Meekmahan happy), and setting up Joe vs Reigns for the Universal Title at Survivor Series.

And even if Reigns wins, WWE Universe won’t be upset, for Joe’s lost.
