Update on Daniel Bryan’s In-Ring Status

Now that the Royal Rumble has come and gone, WWE fans were disappointed but not surprised by Daniel Bryan not returning to the ring. One of the biggest rumors was the potential return of Smackdown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan. Unfortunately, it seems as if he’s still not cleared. Bryan echoed that on Peter Rosenberg’s podcast.

“If I get a bad test somewhere along the line, I won’t wrestle. But I also, will probably, when my contract is up, I’d probably, if I’m still General Manager at that point, I’d probably step away from that part of it because just being around it, I love it a little too much and I need to transition. I need to get this focused because I’m very good at focusing on one thing, right? But then, I need to switch that laser focus to something else like saving the starving polar bears. So yeah, assuming everything continues as it has been going, when my contract is up I would wrestle elsewhere if WWE would not clear me.”

Like many fans, I was disappointed but not surprised when I didn’t hear Daniel Bryan’s music in the Rumble match. While I would have loved to have seen him, I don’t think WWE will break their stand on concussions. They would love to have Bryan in the ring again, but after the health issues he has had, they most likely will never let him wrestle in WWE again.

In regards to his in-ring future that’s also not a surprise. Bryan has made it clear that he wants to wrestle. It doesn’t matter if its in the WWE or elsewhere. It wouldn’t be a surprise if we see Bryan in New Japan or elsewhere.
